Dry fruits Modaka

 


No festival is complete without sweets.
Indian specialty is each festival has a signature dish or sweet.
Modaka is a sweet prepared on Ganesha chaturthi (festival in India) by many South Indian families.
It’s been said that Modaka is Ganapati’s (god )favorite.
Varieties of Modaka can be done. Dry fruits Modaka is one of them and  is my favorite.

Ingredients 

For Outer shell

2 cups – All purpose flour/ maida,
2 tablespoons – sooji rava
1/2 teaspoon – salt,
2 to 3 tablespoons – hot oil,
Water (approx 3/4 cup)

For inner filling

1/2 cup – dry fruits (almonds, cashews,dry dates,raisins)
1 teaspoon – sesame seeds,
1/2 cup – coconut powder,
1 1/2 cups – jaggery,(brown sugar),
1 tsp – cardamom pods/powder,
1/2 cup – Water

Oil to fry

Description 

Firstly, prepare dough to make outer shell.
Mix flour, salt and hot oil. By gradually adding water make a dough .
Cover and keep it aside for 30 minutes.


Meanwhile, prepare inner filling.

Slightly dry roast the sesame seeds and dry fruits except raisins. Grind it dry to a smooth powder(little coarse is also fine). Now add raisins to the dry fruits mixture.
In a heavy bottomed pan/non- stick pan melt Jaggery, add coconut , dry fruits mixture,cardamom pods and mix well.
Add water and bring it to boil by stirring occasionally.
Mixture starts thickening by observing all water. Continuously stir for 2 to 3 minutes and switch of the stove..

Let it cool.


Now, roll the dough with rolling pin by dusting some flour on surface into a big circle.. with the help of cup or cookie cutter .. cut dough into many small round shape dough.
Take a dough which is cut in small circle. Fill it with 1 tablespoons of prepared dry fruits mixture .

Pinch the edges and bring all edges together , twist and seal . Take out the extra dough if any.

Repeat the procedure and make modaka’s

Heat oil in a pan. At low medium heat
Fry Modaka’s until golden brown color.

Take our from oil and place on a tissue paper.

It’s ready to serve!!

Notes

While making filling ,if u add more water. It ll take more time to absorb all moisture. Stir for more time.
